Test of Prototypes
We tested landmarke prototypes in a workshop at the firefighting institute NRW. We developed ideas about the casing and mounting of landmarks and learned about the use of landmarks in teams of firefighters.

We tested landmarke prototypes in a workshop at the firefighting institute NRW. We developed ideas about the casing and mounting of landmarks and learned about the use of landmarks in teams of firefighters.
We performed sensor measurements (ultra sonic, radio, smoke density) in hot environments at the heat training facilities of the firefighting brigade of Chorweiler.
At this workshop we made initial radio tests and also discussed and refined the requirements for the landmarke system with firefighters of the fire brigade of Chorweiler.
In an experience prototyping workshop we tested the developed navigation tactic using color symbols during simulated interventions. Using simple means of presentation firefighters could gain first-hand experiences of the landmarke system in reconnaissance missions. We also tested visual feedback mechanisms in the mask of the firefighters and the Dräger products ETR and FRT 1000.
At this workshop we developed navigation tactics for the landmarke system. A navigation concept was developed by the technical project partners in collaboration with the firefighters Ruster, Antons, Kehr and Dziggel of the fire brigade Cologne and Mr. Penkert and D. Meyer of the firefighting institute NRW.
To kick-off the landmarke project we organized a two-day workshop at the firefighting institute NRW. On the first day all project partners performed simulated firefighting interventions to gain first-hand experiences of the challenge to navigate indoors with heavy equipment and under poor visibility conditions. On the second day project partners presented previous work and know-how that they bring to the landmarke project.
